FAQs

Quality & Durability

Is it strong enough to hold me, my mattress (and my partner and/or pet)?

It sure is! Yona beds are made with an innovative, patent-pending design and some of Australia's highest grade (and most sustainable) cardboard.

We’re very confident with our product, and we will stand by it no matter what. That’s why we offer a 5 year warranty. Even if something does go wrong, we commit to making sure you have an outstanding experience, and will send you a replacement part, and even an entire replacement bed if necessary, on the house.

And what if I want to really test the bed with … ahem… some rougher activities...?

You do you! And you can have faith that the Yona bed is up for any challenge. We have tested our bed with every situation imaginable – and we mean every situation. Trust us - whatever you throw at the Yona bed, it can take it!

We’re confident that the Yona bed can stand up to anything, so much so that if you do manage to do any damage to the bed with anything that can be loosely considered any sort of ‘bed time activity’, we will cover it with our 5 year warranty, all at our cost. We’ve got you covered.

Will my bedroom floor be okay with the Yona bed?

Yep! Carpet, hardwood, faux-wood, and almost any other type of flooring is perfectly compatible with the Yona bed.

For some specific and less common flooring types, the Yona bed can slide a little bit at night. Usually this isn’t noticeable, but if you want to solve it you just need a rug or non-slip mat to go under your bed. Please contact us if you want to double check whether your floor will be okay!

What if water gets onto my Yona bed?

We can understand why you might think that water is the mortal enemy of cardboard – but usually, that’s not the case. If you spill some water, it will usually just go onto your sheets or mattress. If some of it does get on to your bed or other products, then just wipe it up with a clean cloth, and let it dry naturally. You may be left with a faint mark, but it definitely won’t affect the structure or durability of the products.

The same goes for mopping around the furniture – repeated mopping may cause some discolouration right at the bottom of the products, but it won’t have any effect on the structural integrity of them.

What about mopping?

Mopping around our cardboard furniture isn’t a problem at all! Repeated mopping may cause some discolouration right at the bottom of the products, but it won’t have any effect on the structural integrity of them.

I have a cat or dog… will this be trouble?

Most pets play very nicely with Yona furniture, and any scratches are harmless to the cardboard (though they may leave a scratch mark). In fact, we even have cardboard cat/dog beds on our product roadmap… watch this space!

Will high humidity impact my Yona bed?

Absolutely not.

We have tested our Yona bed in extreme humidity, so that every Kiwi can enjoy the Yona bed!

Due to our patent-pending interlocking hexagonal design, and the narrow slits in our cardboard, the Yona bed actually has excellent airflow.

This prevents mould, and allows the Yona bed to maintain its structural integrity for many years.

And if anything does go wrong due to weather or humidity, it would be covered under our comprehensive 5 year warranty!

Will mould be an issue for my Yona bed?

Nope!

Our Yona beds are made of industrial-strength cardboard with moisture resistance.

In addition, our patent-pending interlocking hexagonal design, and the narrow slits in our cardboard, allow the Yona bed to have excellent airflow.

Your Yona bed and your mattress will really be able to breathe, and you won't have any mould problems!

Our bed has been tested for the most extreme weather conditions in New Zealand (hot, cold and humid), so that every Kiwi can enjoy a Yona bed.

And if you ever have any issues due to weather, it will be covered under our 5 year warranty!

What about bugs?

Cardboard is often found in places with roaches and pests but contrary to some myths it's not what attracts them. Cockroaches are attracted to dark, quiet and moist places, i.e. poorly kept cardboard hidden away provide these exact conditions. However, our moisture resistant cardboard located in the middle of a regular room is a place only for you to rest (and not any roaches).

What if I want to change the size of my bed later on?

Our beds are built using the same modular pieces for every size. This way, you can always change to a larger or smaller size bed down the track.

If you want to change size, just contact us over live chat or email, and we will help you make it happen.

If you're going smaller, you will just need to lift out a couple of pieces. Contact us and we'll tell you exactly how many pieces to remove, and from which part of the bed.

If you're going bigger, we can send you the extra pieces you'll need, and help you add them on to your bed.

We'll make sure you are sleeping soundly and sustainably no matter what size bed you want!

I need a bed with a special size that isn't on your website. Can you help me with that?

We sure can! Our modular and patent-pending cardboard design means we have a lot of flexibility with our bed sizes. Just contact us over email or live chat, and let us know the dimensions of the bed that you're looking for.

We'll make sure we can accommodate you, and send you over a price and some instructions.

To date, we have never faced a custom size request that we couldn't accommodate – so your chances are pretty good!

Putting Together & Taking Apart

Is it easy to put together?

Thanks to our unique, patent-pending design, your Yona bed is already put together. It comes that way, out of the box!

All you need to do is open the box, and pull it out. It usually takes a minute or so to get it to the perfect size, but there are definitely no tools and no screws. You will have instructions too, and you can always reach out to us here on our website for some extra guidance if you want a little more hands-on help.

Can I put the bed back in the box and move it or store it?

Absolutely! Some people live in the same place for years, (or decades), while others prefer a more nomadic existence. The Yona bed supports both!

If you keep your original box, you can just push your bed back inside it.

Even if you have recycled your box, you can just push your bed closed, flip it on its side, and put something on top of it to keep it closed (e.g. a mattress, another box, some clothes).

Wherever life takes you, your Yona bed will be there with you.

Can I pack away & put out my Yona bed on a frequent basis, e.g. to use as a spare bed?

100%! While most customers use their Yona as their permanent bed, it can also be used as a spare.

Our beds are designed to be packed away very quickly when you don't need them, and set back up again when you do. Some of our customers even do this every day!

Additionally, due to the minimalist design, it takes up very little room when packed away.

Sustainability & Ethical Supply Chain

Where are your products made?

Made in Australia from both recycled and original fibres.

All of our major suppliers are local businesses, just like us. Aside from supporting our sisters and brothers on both sides of the pond, this also allows us to limit the environmental impact of our product, as we don't need to ship in materials from all around the world!

Are Yona products vegan?

You betcha!

There's nothing in our Yona products or our packaging except for pure cardboard, and we ensure that all of our suppliers, as well as our in-house processes, are all absolutely vegan.

Collapsible content

I'm a free spirit :) Can I paint my Yona furniture?

Absolutely! One of the benefits of our cardboard furniture is that they double as a blank canvas. We have seen some pretty amazing designs from our customers!

The only thing worth noting, is that if you use water-based paints, you should be careful not to go too hard, too fast.

Consider taking it slow and letting the first layer dry before starting on the second – this way you won't 'soak' your products in the water that's part of the paint!

Can I use a valance or bed skirt on my Yona bed?

100%!

While we personally love the cardboard look, we understand that not everyone does. If you want a different look, you can definitely use a valance or a bed skirt with your Yona bed!
